Barcode Scanning Overview
Speed up fulfillment with barcode scanning to move orders between stages.
Barcode scanning allows you to quickly find and manage orders by scanning order barcodes. This is ideal for warehouse or production environments.
How It Works
- Print barcode labels for your orders
- Attach barcodes to physical orders/products
- Scan barcode with a USB scanner or camera
- The configured action is performed automatically
Scan Actions
When you scan an order barcode, one of four actions can be performed:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Search | Navigate to orders with search filter (default) |
| Move to Next Stage | Advance order to the next workflow stage |
| Move to Specific Stage | Move order to a selected target stage |
| Open Details | Navigate directly to order detail page |
Changing Scan Mode
There are three ways to change the current scan action:
1. Floating Badge
Click the floating badge in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open the action configuration modal. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+B to toggle the modal.
2. Action Barcodes
Print action barcodes and place them at workstations. Scan an action barcode to instantly switch modes:
ACTION-SEARCH- Switch to search modeACTION-NEXT- Switch to move-to-next modeACTION-DETAILS- Switch to open details modeSTAGE-{id}- Switch to move-to-stage mode for a specific stage
Download action barcodes from the configuration modal.
3. Dedicated Scan Page
Visit the Scan page in the navigation to access camera scanning and quick action selection.
USB Barcode Scanners
USB barcode scanners work plug-and-play from any page in the app. They emulate keyboard input, so when you scan a barcode, the system detects it and performs the configured action automatically.
- Works anywhere: No need to navigate to a specific page—just scan from the Kanban board, order details, or any other page
- Plug-and-play: Most standard USB barcode scanners work without any configuration
- Instant processing: Scans are detected and processed immediately
This is the recommended approach for dedicated workstations with physical scanners.
Camera Scanning
For devices without a USB scanner, use the dedicated Scan page to scan barcodes with your device's camera:
- Mobile devices: Scan using your phone or tablet camera
- No hardware needed: Works with any device that has a camera
- Temporary workstations: Useful for remote or temporary setups
To use camera scanning, navigate to the Scan page from the top navigation.
Session Persistence
Your scan mode is saved per browser tab and persists while navigating between pages. This means:
- Per-device modes: Each workstation/browser maintains its own scan mode
- Session-based: Mode resets when you close the browser tab
- Multi-workstation support: Different stations can operate in different modes simultaneously
This is ideal for warehouse setups where each station performs a specific task (packing, shipping, QC, etc.).
Barcode Scanner Prefix
In Settings → Fulfillment, you can configure a scanner prefix character (like ~). This is a special character that some scanners can be configured to prepend, which helps the system distinguish scanner input from regular typing.
If your scanner supports configurable prefixes, set it to match this setting for more reliable detection.
Getting Started
- Print barcode labels for your orders (see Printing Barcode Labels)
- Plug in your USB barcode scanner
- Configure your preferred scan action using the floating badge
- Scan a barcode - the action will be performed automatically
